3 technical aspects that good web design must have

In Web Design, when we're thinking about building a new website or revamping an old one, it is just as important to determine minimum performance requirements, and to lay the foundations for achieving this objective, as it is to decide what the website should look like.

Therefore, and before we start making decisions about what colors to use in the header or what typography to use for the body paragraphs, it is imperative to plan the technical and structural aspects of our website.

Undoubtedly, this article could be longer than "Don Quixote", so to give you a general idea and some useful information, we have selected 3 technical requirements that every good website must fulfill.

Tip One: User experience (UX)

The website must be user-friendly and fully adaptable to devices (responsive web design). It is of vital importance to provide the user with a comfortable and friendly navigation, regardless of the device used, as well as tools that facilitate accessibility to users with disabilities.

Designing a user-friendly navigation experience (UX) along with an attractive design (UI) will help increase the time users spend browsing the website. In addition, it will reduce the bounce rate, and even bring the user back to your website when needed, instead of looking for alternatives in your competitors.

Tip Two: Internal structure

Organize the internal HTML markup to define pages in their correct and logical order. This will facilitate the indexing of a website and its correct interpretation by bots, crawlers and screen readers.

Think of how a book is structured, with its chapters, subtitles, paragraphs. This way of structuring content helps the reader to go through and assimilate the information. The same thing happens on a website!

Not only do we help the user to navigate through the content, but the search and indexing robots will also better understand what the content of our website is about and, therefore, will position it better in the search results.

Tip Three: Loading speed

Hurry, hurry, hurry! If a website takes more than 3 seconds to load, you can bet that the user will abandon it before it finishes loading. It is of the utmost importance to design the website from the beginning with this premise in mind and to use optimization and caching plugins once the website is published.

It is necessary to think beforehand about aspects such as the format and weight of the images, fonts to be used, Javascript libraries needed, plugins, etc. This will allow us to define a strategy in this regard and, therefore, will help us to keep the performance of the website under control from the beginning.

Bonus tip

If these requirements are not met, not only will the user’s browsing experience be unpleasant, but negative signals will also be sent to search engines like Google, which will penalize the organic positioning of the website in their search results, harming the SEO of the website. And now you're thinking; "Wait, wait, weren't you talking about web design? That's right, web design is intrinsically linked to certain best practices regarding SEO.
